MORE BEFORES & AFTERS

Newborns are always "tricky" to shoot, and even "trickier" to edit.

Here are some before and afters of a recent Newborn Shoot.  This precious model was 12 days old.  Photos were shot indoors in front of two large windows (no flash).  Canon 60D and Canon L-series 35 mm lens were used for f2 at 35mm, ISO 100, and shutter speed 1/200.
Postprocessing was performed in Adobe LightRoom and Photoshop CS2.

Jacksonville, Alabama child photographer

I'm experimenting with some textures in my post-processing.  Posted below are some "before and after" shots.  SOOC means "straight out of camera" and the photo is unedited.
The edits were done in LR2 then CS2.  Time-consuming, but FUN!

What are do you think?   Feel free to leave comments.

PS -  It was great to see a former math mentor walking up the hill (behind desk) with his sweet family!
A nice surprise indeed :-)

The REAL Easter message: A Glorious Hope!

This Easter I’m making lots of cute bunny photos, and here is a sneak peek.  But this Easter also has me thinking about TWO very special people that I miss lots....

(ONE)  Jan R

AJF - Spring Portrait Session
I’m so glad that I had the honor of knowing and working briefly with Jan R, organist at a Methodist Church in Alabama.  Wow....  she was a terrific lady!  Good attitude.  Great sense of humor (yes, she had to have this to put up with Dr. R….haaaaa!!!)  Full of joy.  Full of spirit.  Full of fun.  Full of life.  And full of faith.

She was also full of talent, which she shared frequently with her church and community.  She was a giver, and so many were blessed by her piano and organ skills.  She invested in others and made the lives of so many people soooo much better!

Mrs. Jan R passed away in June 2011 after a brave fight with cancer.  She is with the Lord because she found truth in “a glorious hope.”

PS – Jan, you have two of the sweetest great-nieces ever.  LK and AK are beautiful and are extra special.  May they love Jesus with committed hearts and follow Him closely.

But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and that he will stand upon the earth at last.  And I know that after this body has decayed, this body shall see God!  Then he will be on my side!  Yes, I shall see him, not as a stranger, but as a friend!
What a glorious hope!

(TWO)  2nd Lt. Matthew A. Blount

I’m also so glad that I had the honor of knowing and loving my sweet cousin Matt for 30 years.  We were only four years apart in age, and while growing up, I thought of Matt as a younger brother.  He grew into such a responsible and talented man of honor.  After 8 years of military service overseas, Matt came back to Alabama. At age 26 he enrolled to finish college hoping for a career in military service.  And once again, he became my “little” brother.  I was going through a really hard time and Matt stepped in and “saved the day.”  He brought joy and adventure to some rough times.  He was my close friend and encourager.  Lots of fun times are treasured in my heart as perfect memories!

Matt met a special lady and got married.  Yes, she won the heart of a terrific man… Matt could hunt, cook, paint, wood-work, and interior decorate.  He was a biker, a gardener, a builder.  He was also a full-time student, and he graduated with honors.  He was a soldier and served bravely (Iraq).  He put his heart into everything he did, and he did it right the first time.  Matt was a good husband and an amazing Daddy to a sweet little girl.

Before he passed, I had a chance to tell Matt that he was my hero…. that I love him…  that I am SO proud of him….  and that I THANK him for serving our country and our family with so much honor and dignity.  No Regrets.  I said what I needed to say.

Matt passed away in March 2012 after a brave fight with cancer.  Three battles.  Two cancers.  He is with the Lord because he too found truth in “a glorious hope.”

My Easter prayer is that all would find this “glorious hope.”  Amen.

Valentines Day 2012 - A tribute to "True Love" & friendship

Bud and Edna Mae married February 14, 1951.  I'm told it was "True Love."  Today would have been their 61st wedding anniversary.  They never had children and had no immediate family.  But they had some wonderful friends…

Edna Mae met Sandy about thirty years ago when Sandy became her AVON representative.  They kept in touch through the years even after Sandy stopped selling.  Bud quit driving ten years back, and Edna Mae needed some extra help.  She asked Sandy if she could weekly catch a ride for groceries.  A few year later Bud passed away.  Ms. Edna Mae was all alone.  With diligent devotion Sandy continued as driver for Edna Mae’s weekly grocery trips and hair appointments.  Through the years that would be over 520 grocery trips.  Sandy knew Edna Mae was lonely and often visited her between grocery trips.  Sandy always remembered special holiday gifts and treats.  Ms. Edna Mae was appreciative for each little thing, and Sandy was the bright star in a lonely life.

A friend loveth at all times.  Proverbs 17:17 KJV

A few weeks ago, at age 88, Edna Mae passed away.  Sandy sat with her during those last moments.  Sandy planned her funeral, settled her estate, cleaned out her apartment, and brought closure to a long chapter of dedicated service to Ms. Edna Mae.  Though she left no family and nothing of great material value behind, Ms. Edna Mae’s legacy was true friendship and memories that made life special and full.

Everybody needs a friend like Sandy.

Everyone needs a hero.

will YOU be that friend to someone?

will YOU give?

In honor of Sandy’s unwavering service to Edna Mae, I lovingly dedicate this photo shoot to all my friends and family who have given so much to me these past few years.  These pictures serve as a reminder to live intentionally and give generously.  An act of service and care is the truest of all Valentines.

Happy Valentines Day 2012!

I never had the privilege of meeting Edna Mae, but somehow I think she would have liked these pictures…
Featured in shoot are vintage items from Edna Mae’s estate:
damask backdrop, crochet blanket, and silver cooler.
